Meet the Founder

Princess Booker

Nine Mile Babies was founded by Princess Booker, author, cultural educator, and granddaughter of Cedella Marley Booker, making her the niece of Grammy nominated Bob Marley.

Princess grew up surrounded by the richness of Caribbean culture, its music, its food, its stories, its warmth. And she noticed, as so many parents do, that this world was almost entirely absent from the children's books and toys available in mainstream retail.

So she created her own. Her debut picture book, Grandma What's That?, was the beginning. It has since expanded into a series spanning Jamaica, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Nigeria, and Notting Hill Carnival, with activity books, colouring resources, and cultural learning packs to match.

Princess is also a sought-after speaker and author educator, delivering school visits, library sessions, and cultural workshops across the UK and internationally.

Mission, Values and Aim

Share information about your brand with your customers. Describe a product, make announcements, or welcome customers to your store.

Mission

To make Caribbean and Black identity visible, celebrated, and central in children's literature and play, so that every child grows up knowing their story is worth telling.

Our Values

Representation is non-negotiable. Every child deserves to see themselves in the books they read and the stories they're told.

Our Aim

In the short term, to put diverse Caribbean-centred books into the hands of every family and classroom that needs them. In the long term, to become the go-to brand for Caribbean children's literature globally.

“From my family to yours—thank you for letting Nine Mile Babies be a part of your child’s world.”
