NINE MILE BABIES was founded by Princess Booker, granddaughter of Cedella Marley-Booker and niece of Bob Marley, to bring Caribbean and African culture into children's books and toys.
Because every child deserves to see themselves in the stories they grow up with.
Meet the Founder
PRINCESS BOOKER is an author, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
Princess grew up surrounded by the richness of Caribbean culture, its music, its food, its stories, its warmth. And she noticed, as so many parents do, that this world was almost entirely absent from the children's books and toys available in mainstream retail.
So she created her own. Her debut picture book, Grandma What's That?, was the beginning. It has since expanded into a series spanning Jamaica, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Nigeria, and Notting Hill Carnival, with activity books, colouring resources, and cultural learning packs to match.
Princess is also a sought-after speaker and author educator, delivering school visits, library sessions, and cultural workshops across the UK and internationally.
Grandma What's That? Series
The Grandma What’s That? series follows a grandmother and her grandchildren, the Nine Mile Babies, as they explore new places and cultures. Through fun, educational stories, the books promote diversity, cultural pride, and awareness, while celebrating the wisdom shared across generations.
Designed for children ages 0–8, the series invites young readers around the world to discover the rich heritage of the Caribbean and Africa together.
